Review/Giveaway: Riverdale The Day Before By: Micol Ostow

banner.png

40151523The Synopsis:

Based on the massively successful CW show, Riverdale, this prequel novel explores what the gang was doing before Season One.

Why did Jughead and Archie have a falling out? What did Veronica’s life look like in the Big Apple? And how long has Betty really been in love with Archie?

Told from multiple points of view, your favorite characters tell their story their way.

My Review:

Being a fan of the tv show, even though I haven’t seen the latest season yet I was super excited to read this book! I’ve always wondered what the characters lives were like before the show.

I really recommend this book for fans who have already watched the show because there is some spoilers of things that go down in the show. If you don’t mind spoilers this book is a great introduction.

The book is written in POV chapters and includes diary entries, text messages and emails between the characters. I really enjoyed reading it this way and I think it made it easier to picture what was happening. Betty’s chapters are mostly diary entries, but it reads like a regular book so don’t worry if you think it’s a little odd.

If you have seen the first season of Riverdale you will know most of the information in this book. It mostly just goes deeper into things of course of what happened the day before!

Betty is in California the whole time and I was really surprised she was in LA for a internship. It didn’t seem very Betty, but I think Betty felt the same way and how everything turns out it makes sense. Except this date of hers, I wonder whatever happened to him?

Veronica is in New York the whole time and we learn just how oblivious of things she really is. I personally hate Veronica because of her personality, but the author got her on point in this book and that’s great.

Not much goes on for Archie and Jughead back in Riverdale except for the friendship change and Archie sneaking around with his teacher. You really get to feel the emotions Archie and especially Jughead feels. Jughead’s chapters were probably my favorite, but that’s probably because he is my favorite character!

Jason and Cheryl were in this book, but not much new information was given. Maybe because we will learn more on the show. But I wish there was some scenes of Jason at home and what was happening there. Polly also pops up a few times in the book too and I liked that.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was such a smooth read I read it all in a day and a half. Could have been a day if I had more time. So Riverdale fans get on this!

Reviews/Giveaway: This Mortal Coil & This Cruel Design By Emily Suvada

ThisCruelDesign_TourBanner.jpg

Book One:

33876440The Synopsis:

Catarina Agatta is a hacker. She can cripple mainframes and crash through firewalls, but that’s not what makes her special. In Cat’s world, people are implanted with technology to recode their DNA, allowing them to change their bodies in any way they want. And Cat happens to be a gene-hacking genius. That’s no surprise, since Cat’s father is Dr. Lachlan Agatta, a legendary geneticist who may be the last hope for defeating a plague that has brought humanity to the brink of extinction. But during the outbreak, Lachlan was kidnapped by a shadowy organization called Cartaxus, leaving Cat to survive the last two years on her own. When a Cartaxus soldier, Cole, arrives with news that her father has been killed, Cat’s instincts tell her it’s just another Cartaxus lie. But Cole also brings a message: before Lachlan died, he managed to create a vaccine, and Cole needs Cat’s help to release it and save the human race. Now Cat must decide who she can trust: The soldier with secrets of his own? The father who made her promise to hide from Cartaxus at all costs? In a world where nature itself can be rewritten, how much can she even trust herself?

My Review:

Holy Moly this is definitely a 5 star read!

If you love Sci-Fi/Dystopians, like me you are sure to love this book just as much as I do! I have read quite alot of Dystopian book series and this one is by far one of the most unique. This book is definitely on my top reads for the year! The world building and even the virus itself I felt was so very original. The way that the people with the virus reacted was something I’d never read before. The temporary immunity even had me by surprise. Although it was a little twisted, I found that it made the story even more intriguing.

This book I think had such a great pace and was definitely a wild ride all through out. It had a fantastic plot line and some really interesting twists. Some of them I saw coming, but some of them I did not. Especially that one at the end!!! It was mind blowing!

There is a love triangle in this book, but I am a sucker for a good love triangle so I didn’t mind at all. I think Emily Suvada did a fantastic job at mapping out the story and the main plot while putting in a little bit of the romance into the mix.

I was definitely fully absorbed into this book and I couldn’t wait to pick up the second book, This Cruel Design. I totally recommend this to all YA Sci-Fi Dystopian lovers!

Book 2:

38316465The Synopsis:

Cat thought the Hydra epidemic was over, but when new cases pop up, Cat must team up with an enemy to fix the vaccine before the virus spirals out of control in this thrilling sequel to This Mortal Coil, which New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman says “redefines ‘unputdownable.’” The nightmare of the outbreak is finally over, but Cat’s fight has only just begun. Exhausted, wounded, and reeling from revelations that have shaken her to her core, Cat is at a breaking point. Camped in the woods with Cole and Leoben, she’s working day and night, desperate to find a way to stop Lachlan’s plan to reprogram humanity. But she’s failing—Cat can’t even control her newly regrown panel, and try as she might to ignore them, she keeps seeing glitching visions from her past everywhere she turns. When news arrives that the Hydra virus might not be as dead as they’d thought, the group is pushed into an uneasy alliance with Cartaxus to hunt down Lachlan and fix the vaccine. Their search takes them to Entropia, a city of genehackers hidden deep in the desert that could also hold the answers about Cat’s past that she’s been searching for. But when confronted with lies and betrayals, Cat is forced to question everything she knows and everyone she trusts. And while Lachlan is always two steps ahead, the biggest threat to Cat may be the secrets buried in her own mind.

My Review:

My gosh! Emily Suvada did it again and she definitely deserves to be on my must buy author list!

This Cruel Design, picks up right where This Mortal Coil left off. I really didn’t think the second book could top the first, but it’s just as epic! Just like the first book, I just couldn’t put it down! I was so very glad that all my questions from, This Mortal Coil was answered!

The plot and pacing was just as amazing as the first book and I really liked the direction This Cruel Design took. I loved the new character editions and of course the old ones as well. The storyline between Cat and Cole continued to progress and I’m really curious to see where their relationship goes in the next book.

The ending of the book is packed full of action, which I’ve come to notice Emily Suvada is really good at creating. Sides were chosen, and not everyone made it out. Which leaves me eagerly anticipating the next book. Which I do hope there is very soon!

Review/Giveaway:Active Memory(Mirador #3) By Dan Wells

The Synopsis:

Active Memory (Mirador #3)

by Dan Wells
Publisher: Blazer + Bray
Release Date: February 13, 2018

Genre: Young Adult, Science Fiction

36277567Even in a world where technology connects everyone’s minds, it would seem that some secrets can still remain hidden.

For all the mysteries teen hacker Marisa Carneseca has solved, one has always eluded her: When she was two years old, she was in a car accident in which she lost her arm and a mob boss’s wife, Zenaida de Maldonado, lost her life. No one can tell her what she was doing in that car, or how it led to the feud between the Carnesecas and the Maldonados.

The secrets from the past rise violently to the surface when Zenaida’s freshly severed hand shows up at the scene of a gangland shooting. If Zenaida is—or was—still alive, it means there’s even more about Marisa’s past that she doesn’t know.

And when everyone from Los Angeles gangs to the world’s largest genetic engineering firms becomes involved in the case, it’s clear there’s more happening under the surface than anyone cares to admit.

The truth is out there, and Marisa will have to thread together lost friends, corporate assassins, a gang lord’s digital brain, and what might be a literal ghost from the past in order to find it.

My Review:

“The past is in the past, It can’t hurt you unless you let it. So we’re not going to let it.”

This book was amazing, just like the other two before it! I really love Dan Wells writing style and can’t wait to check out his other series!

Here’s my reviews for the first two books if you haven’t already seen them.
Review: Bluescreen (Mirador #1) By: Dan Wells
Review: Ones and Zeros (Mirador #2) By: Dan Wells

Marisa and The Cherry Dogs are back at it again hacking their way through the world wide web. This time Marisa is finally finding out things that we have been wondering since book one. Why was she in the car with Omar’s Mom fifteen years ago!

I definitely didn’t see the truth arising by the police finding Zenaida de Maldonado’s FRESH severed hand at a crime scene. So Marisa and the gang are on a mission to find out did Zenaida really die or not fifteen years ago. While on their mission they uncover even more secrets connecting her and Zenaida to the world’s most powerful genetic engineering firm.

Along the way Marisa gets a little help from the Mob and her brothers gang which got pretty interesting. Which also leads to more of Omar, which Marisa might start to have feelings for!? What about Alain! We won’t know because sadly he isn’t in this one, but I have a feeling he’d be in feature books. I really hope so! Please tell me there’s more books! I’d love to read more of this world!

“He stopped, and turned toward her. His eyes were as dark as onyx, and she was suddenly struck by the way he looked at her – intense and probing, like was looking at her and into her and through her all at once.”

There’s also some new obstacles
“And I definitely don’t want her to tangle with me.” “The Wonder Mantis”, said Sahara. “The WoMantis,” sad Marisa. ” The Mantissassin,” said Sahara.”
With those names you can only imagine what to expect from that person.

The ending was bittersweet, but I think perfect.

“Be yourself, because it’s obviously working well for you, but don’t be yourself so hard that you forget to be the kind of self that other people need.”

Rosemarked Blitz and Giveaway!

Hello everyone! Here is a special post from Livia Blackburne, author of Rosemarked! I loved her book so much and you can check out my review here: Review: Rosemarked by Livia Blackburne

RosemarkedHighResFinalCover

Hi Everyone!

This is Livia Blackburne, and I’m thrilled to share ROSEMARKED with you at long last. There are a lot of elements to this book, including a love story, a spy story, reflections on trauma and mortality, medical ethics, and political intrigue.  Perhaps because of this, my research for the book was equally eclectic, from archery and stick fighting lessons, to chats with memory researchers and soldiers, and lots and lots of reading, including books about leper colonies, hospice care, and PTSD. Hopefully, I wove it all into an entertaining and thought-provoking story!

This story centers on Zivah, a talented healer with an incurable illness, and Dineas, a traumatized soldier. The two couldn’t be more different, and I had a lot of fun writing their unlikely love story.  In order to work together, they both have to let go of their own prejudices and preconceptions. It’s a painful process, with fights and misunderstandings, anger, laughter and tears, but in the end, they both come out as stronger people.

To celebrate the ROSEMARKED release, I’m offering 3 lucky winners a ROSEMARKED swag pack, which includes a copy of ROSEMARKED and a signed bookplate! Due to sweepstakes laws, entrants must be 18 years or older to participate. Best of luck, and happy reading!

Rafflecopter Giveaway!
