My top 10 Books/Series of 2017

Can you guys believe it, that it’s about to be 2018! 2017 was a blur!
Anyways with a new year, comes a new Goodreads goal! So to help you with your 2018 Goodreads goal here is my top 15 books/series I recommend to you because I enjoyed them the most this year!

Related image1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I loved both of the books from this amazing duology. I’m dying for more of The Dregs! Six of Crows has become number two in my all time favorite books! My most favorite is Game of Thrones. I have not read any of the Grisha books so if you’re looking to read these I definitely say you don’t have to read the Grisha trilogy first. I do plan to read them in 2018 though because Leigh Bardugo is a must read author for me thanks to this duology.

If you’d like to know more of my thughts on these two books here are my reviews
Review: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Review: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

Also gaining a spot in my top 3 all time favorite series is these epic 4 books and 2 Novellas. These are a definite must read for fairy tale and retelling lovers. Cress was my favorite of the series and Thorne is one of the best characters I’ve ever read about. I loved every bit of it!

Related image3. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

This is the most unique book I’ve ever read in my whole life. I loved all the hidden shoutouts to all the authors and even members to one of my favorite bands Lamb of God!
I loved it so much, I read it all in one day! The formatting is beautiful, I wish there was more books like this series, but no one could probably do it as good as Amie and Jay!

Tahereh Mafi’s writing was fantastic and unique. I love the worlds she created! Futhermore is so colorful inside and out! I defiantly felt like I was on an adventure the whole time. I’m so excited to read the sequel Whichwood and her Shatter Me series is definitely on my 2018 TBR!

Review: The Fire Raven by Alex Owumi

32467719The Synopsis:

Raven Winter is known as the world’s most dangerous assassin. She comes from a family of assassins and killing has been her expertise for years. The Recruitment Agency is her main employer and for many years they have sent her on missions all over the world to kill some of the most dangerous people known to man. Not knowing much of her past, she only knows the life the agency has taught her, but as she gets older she wants to know more about events and people from her past.
One mission, a mission she thought was just another routine job turns into a mission that opens up a door from her past. With this one mission, she realizes that what she was once taught about her past wasn’t true and her life up to this point has been a lie. But on this day she has opened up a door that she can’t turn around and walk out of. It has caused her to dig deep into her past, and to reveal her past she has to love, lie and kill.

My Review:

If you love Mystery/Suspense novels that borderline the New Adult genre this book is for you! Alex Owumi’s writing is written in extreme detail right down to every step taken by the each character.

The main character Raven is an assassin and I would also say she is a master seductress. She’s the best in the agency she works for, but soon she is given a mission that will turn her upside down. Right along with Raven you won’t know who to trust and you won’t see what’s coming next.

The ending really got me. It was the perfect ending to draw you in and want to know what happens next. Luckily there is a second and third novel to continue this story. ;]

Review: Bloodline (Spellbound Chronicles) by S.E. Maguire

35530979The Synopsis:

A dark mass slowly descended out of the star strewn sky and hovered menacingly above twenty-three and a half Vulcan Mews, Doncaster, the home of the unsuspecting Gorry family.

Two figures sauntered into view, their footsteps crunching on the gravel. They stopped across from the Gorry house and stared hard at the spectre on the roof. Almost immediately the air began to crackle with electricity. Caught in the electrical current and unable to sustain its shape or position a moment longer the black mass angrily began to disperse.

The watchers braced themselves for they knew what was to come; then moved on.

The Review:

Larna has been having nightmares, about things she starts to see in real life. Could they possibly not be part of her imagination? You must read to find out.

This book is part of the Middle Grade genre, but I think YA readers could still enjoy it. I did! It has quite a bit of action and time travel and you could even read it to your child! There is death so maybe smaller children shouldn’t read it, but it’s no worse than Mafusa’s death in The Lion King. So not that bad. ;]

There is lots of fantastical things and creatures in this story. Like witches, wizards, warlocks, fairys, talking animals and even part humans part animals!

Of course it’s full of lots and lots of magic! So if your a fan of young fantasy, time traveling adventures, magic and fairy tale like creatures this is for you! I enjoyed it so much I read it in one day!

Review: Noelle By: Greg Kincaid

34181936The Synopsis:

From the New York Times bestselling author of A Dog Named Christmas comes this heartwarming Christmas story about the power of family and the strength and love that comes from our pets.
In this installment of the poignant stories of the McCray family and their lovable canines in rural Kansas, matriarch Mary Ann McCray is determined to shake up Christmas by accepting the role as Crossing Trail’s first woman Santa Claus. Mary Ann, always a bit of a rebel, is looking to offer a more progressive voice in the staunchly conservative town at Christmastime and has a few ideas up her red velvet sleeves.

My Review:

If you are looking for a heartwarming Christmas stories for the season, you will  love this book. I haven’t read the previous books in the series, but I think this book could definitely be read as a standalone. I’ve seen the Hallmark movie based off the first book A Dog Named Christmas and there is a few characters from that in this, but years later.

This story does confront real life problems such as divorce and alcoholism and how it  effects the families involved. But it’s mostly heartwarming thanks to this little odd ball pup named Noelle.

This story did jump Point of Views a lot there was about ten main characters and you see the their story in their words at least once from each one of them. All the characters know each other one way or another though and their stories end up entwining with each other and of course Noelle.

Photo of Greg KincaidAbout The Author:

hpImage result for ruined by mc frank

I’m still reading Masked. Unfortunately I haven’t picked it up since last Wednesday. I decided to join a 40 day Harry Potter readahton of all things and try to read all 7 books in 40 days. haha. It’s day 7 and I just started Prisoner of Azkaban

  1. Why did you decide to pick up this book – cover or content?
I was on MC Frank’s street team for her Dystopian Trilogy No Ordinary Star and also read her contemporary book,Lose Me and loved it! So when the opportunity aroused to read and review Ruined I just had to! Plus it sounded great! AND that cover!
  2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
Definitely the Duke. He’s so dreamy and dark. haha.
  3. Will you finish this one?
    Plan to today.
  4. Finish the sentence:  This book reminds me of… (other books, movies, tv shows…)
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I don’t know why it just does. I guess because of the classicness and the characters. There’s no zombies in Ruined though. ha
  5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,…)
It keeps a pretty steady pace the whole time.

To join in on this fun meme, I tag everyone who is reading this!

My Current Reads:

  1. Why did you decide to pick up this book – cover or content?
Ruined – I was on MC Frank’s streer team for her Dystopian Trilogy No Ordinary Star and also read her contemporary book,Lose Me and loved it! So when the opportunity aroused to read and review Ruined I just had to! Plus it sounded great!
  2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
Masked- I’m on page 170 now and some of the supers got agents. I’m really liking them! They are both so funny.
  3. Will you finish this one?
    Yup, I rarely DNF books.
  4. Finish the sentence:  This book reminds me of… (other books, movies, tv shows…)
Well Ruined is a Jane Eyre retelling, but I haven’t read Jane Eyre, buut I’m definitely feeling the classic vibe written into it. Even though it’s a retelling it’s still set in the correct time period.
  5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,…)
Masked- it’s page 170 and I’m hoping that this book picks up speed soon. They did just do their first “mission” so maybe it will.
The previous pages basically was introducing the characters and their powers. It’s still interesting though.
